At Mountain Jewel Farm, we work very hard to research and choose top bloodlines in order to continually improve our alpaca herd. Balanced conformation, superior fiber quality and exceptional genetic lines are our priorities when making breeding decisions. The Mountain Jewel herd is currently involved in EPD testing. We believe that expected progeny difference tests are helping alpaca breeders make intelligent breeding choices.
We believe that the future is bright for the alpaca industry as breeders across the country understand how the superior fiber of the American Alpaca is increasingly valued all over the world.
Alpacas are not only gentle and easy to handle, but easy on the land, and have few requirements for their care in relationship to raising other farm animals such as horses and cattle. You can easily raise 10 alpacas per acre of land. Raising and breeding alpacas is a sustainable and an environmentally friendly way to farm.
Alpacas natural colors number over 20 and the fiber spins into luxurious yarns which are extremely soft and very lightweight. Alpaca fiber is hollow and has superior insulating properties. The clothing, textiles, and accessories that can be made from alpaca fiber are limited only by your imagination. The beauty and comfort of alpaca clothing is unsurpassed.
We invite you to visit our pages and our alpaca farm. We would love to answer any questions you may have about alpaca farming and introduce you to some outstanding alpacas.
